Gratin Dauphinois

Summary: Also called scalloped potatoes, Gratin Dauphinois is a French potato dish. There are many different recipes to make it, but here is an easy one.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • Potatoes (amount depends on type of dish used, and how many people you are making it for. I usually use 1 1/2-2 for 3 people and there are some leftovers)
  • 1 Clove of Garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Cheese (Gruyère, Emmenthal, it’s not traditional, but it does taste good)

Instructions

  1. First peel the potatoes and slice it into about 4mm thick slices.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  3. Boil the cream.
  4. Butter a Pyrex dish, and lay one layer of potatoes on it.
  5. Add salt, pepper and minced garlic.
  6. Add another layer of potatoes.
  7. Put more salt and pepper over it.
  8. Add the cheese, and pour over the boiling cream.
  9. Put this into the oven for 45 minutes-1 hour till the cheese is bubbling and the potatoes are cooked.
